I love collecting quotes. Here are some that have sort of stayed with me. Will change them when something else catches my fancy!
Try to love the questions themselves like locked rooms and like books that are written in a very foreign tongue. Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given to you. Live the questions now. (Rainer Maria Rilke)
Above all, be the heroine of your life, not the victim. (Nora Ephron)
Books are, let’s face it, better than everything else! (Nick Hornby)
Each poem is an experiment. The poem carries you beyond where you could have reasonably expected to go. The image I have is from the old cartoons. Donald Duck or Mickey Mouse coming hell for leather to the edge of the cliff, skidding to a stop but unable to halt, and shooting out over the edge. A good poem is the same, it goes that bit further and leaves you walking on air. (Seamus Heaney)
Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so. (Douglas Adams)
And one of my all time favourites…
Calvin: They say the world is a stage. But obviously the play is unrehearsed and everybody is ad-libbing his lines.
Hobbes: Maybe that’s why it’s hard to tell if we’re living in a tragedy or a farce.
Calvin: We need more special effects and dance numbers.
